Summer Internship Opportunity
We invite applications for a Summer Internship for students interested in working at the intersection of art history and library science. The intern will assist in cataloguing our collection of books, exhibition catalogues, magazines, newspapers, and ephemera belonging to Mrinalini Mukherjee, currently housed at the MMF office, New Delhi. This internship offers hands-on experience in cataloguing, metadata entry, and library organisation, and is ideal for students interested in visual culture, archives, and library sciences.
Internship Details:

Location: Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi

Duration: Two months (May & June preferably)

Stipend: Rs. 10,000 per month

Responsibilities:

Cataloguing & Metadata: Organize and catalogue the book collection using an open-source Integrated Library System (ILS). Propose a thematic and classification structure for the collection (knowledge of Library of Congress Classification (LCC) required). Capture and enter detailed metadata for books, magazines, journals, newspaper clippings, exhibition catalogues, lecture notes, and other ephemera.

Collection Management & Digitization: Assist in organizing and maintaining the physical library. Photograph materials and support the creation of a visual catalogue. Digitize select items and help implement basic tracking systems for the collection.

Research & Documentation: Research artist publications and related scholarship. Compile a bibliography of published research (papers, theses, journals) on the artists to assist with collection acquisition.
Eligibility Criteria

Students pursuing degrees (or recent graduates) in Library Science, Information Studies, Conservation Studies, Museumology or a related field.

Proficiency in using computer software for data entry and research. Familiarity with library systems is a plus.

Basic understanding of cataloguing systems and metadata practices. Familiarity with LCC preferred.

Strong organisational and documentation skills with attention to detail.

Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and handle physical and digital records with care.

Interest in artist archives, visual culture, and research-based work.
Expected Deliverables: To document the cataloguing process and contribute to an online presentation of the collection for the MMF website. Submit a final report outlining the collection, work completed, and key learnings.
The intern will be reporting to the Archivist and will be expected to learn from and assist in the overall cataloguing and digitization work at MMF Archive.
