Talk by Samarth | Leela Mukherjee Artist-Educator Grant recipient: Presented in collaboration with Welham Old Boys Society

16 June 2024

Mrinalini Mukherjee Foundation, in collaboration with Welham Old Boys Society, is pleased to welcome you to a talk by Samarth.

Samarth is the recipient of the inaugural Leela Mukherjee Artist-Educator Grant. The Grant will support his recently initiated project with the children of the The Happy Children’s Library, a community library space for children of Seem, Uttarakhand.

Samarth is an artist, graphic narrativist and arts-educator based in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand. He works with the pen name ‘roeqin’. His practice is primarily centred around sequential art and is situated within the contexts he inhabits. Visual narratives offer him a container for the observed and documented to marinate in the fictional and speculative— The people, settings, and ecologies that surround him find their way into his work, constituting the fabric through which his stories are woven. This active sense-making of the ecosystems around him is also what inspires his work as an art educator, collaborating with children to perceive the society, ecology and geography around them and interpret their experiences of it using comics. Samarth’s first graphic novel, ‘Suit’, was published by Yodapress in 2022.

This talk is part of  CONFLUENCE, a week-long exhibition and community engagement initiative titled organised by the Welham Old Boys Society, at The Stainless Gallery, New Delhi. The exhibition remains open until 22 June, 2024.
